Medical weight management

Weight Is Part of a Larger Metabolic Picture

Persistent excess weight is rarely explained by a single cause. Medical weight management in Hyderabad at Boston Diabetes looks beyond "eat less and exercise more" to the factors that may be involved for each person.

  • Metabolic health
  • Insulin resistance
  • Sleep
  • Physical activity
  • Medications
  • Hormonal conditions
  • Thyroid function
  • Blood pressure
  • Blood sugar
  • Liver health
  • Family history
  • Eating patterns

Not every case has a hormonal cause. The assessment identifies which factors are relevant to you.

Thyroid and weight

How Thyroid Function Can Affect Weight and Overall Health

The thyroid gland produces hormones that influence metabolism and many body functions. When thyroid function is reduced, some people notice fatigue, changes in weight, constipation, feeling cold or changes in mood.

ThyroidMetabolismEnergyWeight

A relationship, not a one-to-one cause. Weight gain is not always due to thyroid disease, and thyroid tests are interpreted with your symptoms, history and clinical assessment.

Beyond weight

Why Thyroid Health Matters Beyond Weight

Thyroid disorders can be relevant to several areas of health, which is why they benefit from appropriate evaluation and monitoring.

  • Heart and circulation

Thyroid dysfunction can affect heart rate, blood pressure and cardiovascular risk factors.

  • Cholesterol and metabolism

An underactive thyroid can be associated with changes in cholesterol levels.

  • Menstrual and reproductive health

Thyroid dysfunction can affect menstrual cycles and reproductive health in some people.

  • Bone health

Excess thyroid hormone over time can have implications for bone density.

  • Energy, mood and concentration

Thyroid dysfunction can be associated with fatigue, mood changes and difficulty concentrating.

  • Pregnancy and planning

Thyroid function matters before and during pregnancy and should be managed with medical supervision.

Autoimmune thyroid disease

Autoimmune Thyroid Disease Needs More Than a Single Blood Test

In some thyroid conditions, the immune system mistakenly targets thyroid tissue or changes how the gland works. The two most common are Hashimoto's thyroiditis and Graves' disease.

Appropriate diagnosis, treatment and monitoring can help maintain thyroid function and manage symptoms and associated health risks.

An autoimmune condition in which the immune system targets thyroid tissue and can progressively reduce thyroid function.

Graves' disease

An autoimmune condition that can cause the thyroid to produce too much hormone.

Obesity treatment

Advanced Medical Treatment for Obesity

Obesity is a chronic, complex medical condition. When lifestyle measures alone are not enough, medical treatment may be considered based on an individual's health profile, risk factors, previous treatment response and clinical needs.

  • Medical nutrition therapy

A clinician-guided nutrition strategy based on metabolic health, preferences, lifestyle and medical conditions.

  • Prescription weight-management medicines

Where clinically appropriate, approved prescription medicines may be considered as part of a broader medical plan.

  • Metabolic risk management

Related metabolic conditions are treated alongside weight rather than separately.

  • Long-term weight management

Ongoing follow-up, because obesity care is not a short-term diet programme.

Medical interventions for obesity

Treatment steps up only as far as clinically needed. Not every patient needs medication.

  1. Assessment
  2. Lifestyle and nutrition
  3. Medical treatment
  4. Advanced options
  5. Long-term follow-up

The right pathway depends on: BMI and body composition where relevant · metabolic health · related conditions · medication history · previous weight-management attempts · your preferences · clinical suitability.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Can thyroid problems cause weight gain?

An underactive thyroid can contribute to weight gain, usually modest and partly due to fluid retention. Most excess weight is not caused by thyroid disease, so thyroid results are interpreted alongside symptoms, history and a clinical assessment.

Can treating an underactive thyroid help with weight management?

Treatment aims to bring thyroid hormone levels into the appropriate range and can help with symptoms such as fatigue. Any change in weight is often modest, and thyroid medication is not a weight-loss treatment.

Does everyone with weight gain need thyroid tests?

Not necessarily. Testing is guided by symptoms, medical history and previous results, and the physician advises which tests, if any, are useful.

Do I need previous reports to book?

No. Bring recent reports and a list of current medicines if you have them. You can book without them.
